George J. Mitchell
Bio | George J. Mitchell is an American Democratic politician, lawyer, and businessman who has a decorated career in American politics. Starting with his election to the U.S. Senate representing Maine in 1980, he has served as the Deputy President pro tempore of the U.S. Senate, Chair of the Senate Democratic Caucus, and Senate Majority leader throughout his Senate tenure until his departure in 1995. Mitchell then served as the U.S. Special Envoy for Northern Ireland, Vice Chair of the 9/11 Commission, and as the U.S. Special Envoy for Middle East Peace. |
